The Grocery Bags Finally Won...

I Became the Bag Lady

Come Sit Awhile with Mama T

Friend...

I finally reached my limit.

Not with my husband.

Not with the dog.

Not even with the grocery prices.

No...

It was the reusable grocery bags.

Those things are multiplying faster than rabbits on sweet tea.

I started with two.

Now I apparently own forty-seven.

I don't remember buying them.

I think they reproduce in the trunk of my car when I'm asleep.

Every grocery trip...

The cashier smiles so sweetly.

"Did you bring your own bags today?"

Friend...

Yes.

Technically.

They're all in my trunk.

Under the folding chairs.

Behind the emergency flashlight.

Next to the ice scraper I haven't used since 2014.

So naturally...

I buy another one.

Because that seems reasonable.

❤️ Pull Up a Chair, Friend...

If you've ever stood in the grocery checkout line knowing full well your reusable bags are sitting in the car...

And still paid another two dollars for more...

Bless your heart.

You're among friends.

Here at RusticRootsPantry.com, we laugh about the everyday moments that remind us we're all just figuring life out one grocery receipt at a time.

Because life after 50 isn't about pretending we've got it all together.

It's about laughing when we absolutely don't.

Last Tuesday...

I decided enough was enough.

I was going to organize them.

I emptied every reusable grocery bag onto the kitchen table.

Friend...

It looked like I was preparing for the world's largest yard sale.

Out came...

Receipts from three Christmases ago.

Lip balm that melted sometime during the last presidential election.

A coupon that expired while flip phones were still popular.

Three pens.

None of them worked.

A single sock.

Don't ask.

Half a peppermint.

And...

Somehow...

Another reusable grocery bag.

I don't know where it came from.

It was like watching magic.

My husband wandered through the kitchen...

Looked at the mountain of bags...

And asked...

"What are you doing?"

I proudly said...

"Getting organized."

He looked around.

Very slowly.

Then said...

"It looked more organized before."

Friend...

The audacity.

I almost made him fold every last one of them.

Instead...

I handed him one.

He folded it into something that looked like an origami squirrel.

I folded mine into a lumpy tortilla.

We decided neither of us possessed this particular spiritual gift.

❤️ Friend... Tell Me the Truth...

How many reusable grocery bags do you honestly own?

Don't count.

Just guess.

It's safer that way.

And...

Are yours actually inside the grocery store...

Or are they faithfully riding around in your trunk like mine?

Here's what I finally realized...

Those bags tell a story.

One came from the farmer's market with my daughter.

One reminded me of shopping with my mama.

One still had beach sand tucked into the bottom from a family vacation years ago.

One had cookie crumbs from a grandbaby who insisted "snacks are an emergency."

Funny how something as ordinary as a grocery bag can carry so many memories.

Maybe that's what getting older teaches us.

The little things become the big things.

The conversations.

The laughter.

The trips to the grocery store that somehow turned into lunch together.

The moments we almost forgot...

Until we found them tucked inside a reusable bag.

And honestly...

I wouldn't trade those memories for all the perfectly folded grocery bags in Texas.

💬 Let's Visit Together

Be honest...

How many reusable grocery bags do you think you own?

And...

What's the strangest thing you've ever found inside one?

I have a feeling somebody's going to confess to finding ketchup packets from 2018...

And honestly...

I can't wait to read every single comment.

Until next time...

Keep laughing.

Keep making memories.

And maybe...

Take your grocery bags into the store.

❤️ Love, Mama T
