I don't know if this is getting older...
Or if my brain has simply decided to retire without filling out the paperwork.
Yesterday...
I spent a full five minutes looking for my phone.
Five.
Whole.
Minutes.
I checked the kitchen counter.
The bathroom.
My purse.
The pantry.
The refrigerator...
Because apparently I've reached that stage of life where electronics and leftovers are roommates.
I even accused my husband.
"Have you seen my phone?"
He looked at me...
Smiled that little smile that immediately gets on your last nerve...
And said...
"You mean the one you're talking on?"
Friend...
I nearly swallowed my own tongue.
I had the phone...
In my hand.
The entire time.
❤️ Pull Up a Chair, Friend...
If you've ever looked for your glasses while wearing them...
Lost your coffee because you already drank it...
Or walked into a room only to forget why...
Honey...

Now...
Before you judge me...
Let's review the evidence.
Last week...
I searched the entire house for my reading glasses.
You know where they were?
Hanging around my neck.
Like they had been there all day enjoying the view.
The week before that...
I tore the kitchen apart looking for the TV remote.
After twenty minutes...
I found it...
In the freezer.
I don't even want to know the chain of events that led to that decision.
Then there was the time I couldn't find my coffee.
Friend...
I was carrying it.
I picked up another cup...
And wondered why my hands were so full.
Some days I feel less like a functioning adult...
And more like a confused raccoon wandering through Costco.
My husband says...
"Why don't you slow down?"
Bless his sweet heart.
If slowing down fixed this...
I'd be the sharpest woman in Texas.
This isn't speed.
This is having seventeen thoughts...
Three grocery lists...
A doctor's appointment...
A recipe...
Two birthdays...
And wondering if I remembered to thaw the hamburger...
All at exactly the same time.
Meanwhile...
Somebody hollers...
"What's for supper?"
And just like that...
Every thought I had flies out of my head like birds leaving a scarecrow.
Sometimes...
I'll open the pantry...
Stand there staring...
Then whisper...
"I know I came in here for something."
The beans know.
The crackers know.
The flour knows.
Everybody in that pantry knows...
Except me.

What's the funniest thing you've ever lost...
That was right in front of you the whole time?
Your keys?
Your glasses?
Your purse?
Your patience?

I used to think these little moments meant I was losing it.
Now...
I think they're proof I've spent decades taking care of everybody else.
Our minds are full.
Our hearts are full.
Our calendars are full.
Our grocery carts are full.
And somehow...
We're still the women who remember everyone's favorite birthday cake...
Even if we occasionally lose the phone we're holding.
So if today you find your glasses in the refrigerator...
Or the remote in your purse...
Or you call somebody...
To ask them where your phone is...
Give yourself a little grace.
And maybe...
A good laugh.
Because honestly...
If we couldn't laugh at ourselves...
We'd spend half our lives crying in the pantry.
And friend...
The pantry already has enough drama.
