I Sat Down for Five Minutes... Apparently That Was My Mistake

Come Sit Awhile with Mama T

Friend...

I made one tiny mistake.

I sat down.

That's it.

Five whole minutes.

I wasn't asking for a vacation to Hawaii.

I wasn't requesting a massage.

I simply lowered myself into my recliner...

With a fresh glass of sweet tea...

And thought...

"I'm just going to rest my feet."

Apparently...

The entire universe took that personally.

Within thirty seconds...

The dog needed outside.

My phone rang.

The dryer buzzed.

The ice maker started making sounds like it was birthing a refrigerator.

And somewhere...

I swear I heard the smoke detector chirp just to remind me it still existed.

Friend...

Why is it...

The minute a woman over fifty sits down...

Everybody suddenly remembers she exists?

❤️ Pull Up a Chair, Friend...

If you've ever finally sat down after cleaning, cooking, grocery shopping, folding laundry, answering texts, paying bills, and keeping everyone else alive...

Only to have someone yell...

"Mom?"

"Honey?"

"Grandma?"

Or...

"Where's the ketchup?"

Welcome home.

Here at RusticRootsPantry.com, we celebrate the beautifully chaotic lives of women over 40, 50, 60, and 70 who somehow keep the whole circus running...

Even when they'd really just like to finish one cup of coffee...

Or sweet tea...

While it's still hot.

The funniest part?

Nobody wanted anything important.

My husband walked in.

Looked directly at me.

And asked...

"Have you seen my glasses?"

Friend...

They were on his forehead.

Higher than gas prices.

Lower than his hairline.

I just blinked.

He found them.

Never apologized.

Then walked away like nothing had happened.

Five minutes later...

The phone rang.

It was one of my kids.

"Mom...

Where did you keep that recipe for your chicken and dumplings?"

Honey...

If I knew where every recipe was...

I'd also know where the TV remote disappeared to in 2019.

About that time...

I remembered I'd forgotten to switch the laundry.

Again.

By now...

The towels probably had their own zip code.

I headed toward the laundry room...

Walked in...

Stopped...

And thought...

"What did I come in here for?"

Friend...

I have officially become the loading screen between thoughts.

Some days my brain has excellent Wi-Fi.

Other days...

It's still buffering.

❤️ Tell Me the Truth...

What's the longest you've ever waited to sit down...

Only to have somebody immediately need something?

Or...

Have you ever hidden in the bathroom for five peaceful minutes...

Just to hear someone knocking?

This is a judgment-free porch.

We're all friends here.

You know what finally happened?

Around 8:45 that evening...

I sat back down.

The house got quiet.

The dishes were finished.

The laundry was folded.

Everybody had eaten.

The dog was asleep.

My phone was finally silent.

I looked around...

Smiled...

And thought...

"This is nice."

Then...

The cat threw up.

Friend...

Life has impeccable timing.
