Friend...

I finally did it.

I organized my pantry.

You'd think I'd climbed Mount Everest the way I carried on.

I bought matching baskets.

Cute little labels.

Clear storage containers.

A lazy Susan.

And enough organizational gadgets to make a professional organizer weep with pride.

By the time I was finished...

My pantry looked like it belonged in a magazine.

Everything had a place.

Soup with soup.

Pasta with pasta.

Spices lined up straighter than church ladies at a potluck.

I stepped back...

Put my hands on my hips...

And admired my masterpiece.

I was convinced I'd changed my life.

Then it happened.

I couldn't find the salt.

Apparently...

My organizational system made perfect sense...

To the woman I was three hours earlier.

Current me?

Not so much.

I stood there opening basket after basket.

"Baking."

Nope.

"Breakfast."

Nope.

"Snacks."

Definitely not.

"Miscellaneous."

Well, that's just a fancy word for "good luck."

Somewhere along the way...

I found three bottles of vanilla.

Four bags of rice.

Enough taco seasoning to feed a football team.

And beans.

Friend...

I don't even remember buying half those beans.

If hard times come...

Y'all just head to my house.

We'll be eating pinto beans until 2034.

Then I found two jars of peanut butter.

Three unopened bottles of ketchup.

And enough pasta to open a small Italian restaurant.

But the salt?

Gone.

I finally asked my husband if he'd seen it.

He opened one cabinet.

Reached in.

Pulled it out.

"It was right here."

Friend...

I'd already looked there.

Twice.

Apparently my pantry and my eyesight had entered into a secret agreement.

Here's the thing nobody tells you about organizing.

You don't realize how much stuff you've bought...

Until you put it all in one place.

That's when you discover:

Five bottles of barbecue sauce.

Seven reusable grocery bags stuffed inside another reusable grocery bag.

Four nearly empty boxes of crackers because nobody wanted to finish the last handful.

And enough plastic food containers...

Without matching lids...

To build a subdivision.

Why are the lids always the ones that disappear?

I think they're hanging out with missing socks...

And my reading glasses.

❤️ Friend... Tell Me I'm Not Alone

What's the funniest thing you've found while cleaning out your pantry?

A can that expired during the last presidential administration?

Three bags of marshmallows?

A mystery spice you don't remember buying?

Leave me a comment.

Y'all make me laugh just as much as I hope these stories make you laugh.

The funny thing is...

I didn't really organize my pantry because it was messy.

I organized it because I thought it would make life easier.

Sometimes it does.

Sometimes it just means I spend five extra minutes trying to remember whether I labeled the basket "Baking" or "Desserts."

Life has a funny way of reminding us...

Perfection isn't hiding in matching containers.

It's hiding in the laughter that happens when things don't go according to plan.

Because one day...

Our kids won't remember whether the pantry was color-coded.

They'll remember the cookies.

The suppers.

The smells coming from the kitchen.

The conversations around the table.

And the woman who somehow managed to feed everybody...

Even when she couldn't find the salt.

I'd call that a pretty successful life.
