I Finally Cleaned Out My Purse...
I Could've Opened a Convenience Store
Come Sit Awhile with Mama T
Friend...
Yesterday...
I made a decision that changed my life.
I cleaned out my purse.
Now...
Before you start applauding...
You need to understand something.
This wasn't a purse.
It was a traveling museum.
An archaeological dig.
A small emergency preparedness center.
If FEMA had shown up...
I'd have been their regional headquarters.
I dumped everything onto the kitchen table...
And my husband looked over...
Blinking like he'd just witnessed a yard sale explode.
He asked...
"Are you moving out?"
I said...
"No...
I'm looking for my debit card."
❤️ Pull Up a Chair, Friend...
If you've ever reached into your purse looking for your keys...
And somehow pulled out three old receipts, a peppermint, a grocery list from Easter, two ink pens that don't work, and a mystery cough drop...
Friend...
You're exactly where you belong.
At RusticRootsPantry.com, we laugh about the everyday moments every woman over 40, 50, 60, and 70 has lived...
But rarely admits out loud.
Because life after 50 isn't about pretending we've got it all together.
It's about laughing while we're still looking for our car keys.
What did I find?
Friend...
Where do I begin?
Six ink pens.
None of them wrote.
Four pairs of reading glasses.
Couldn't find one pair last Tuesday.
Enough receipts to prove inflation should apologize personally.
Three tubes of lipstick.
The exact same shade.
Apparently I panic-buy "Dusty Rose."
A tiny bottle of hand lotion.
Twenty-seven cents.
A coupon that expired during the Carter administration.
Don't fact-check me.
It felt that old.
There was a little packet of ketchup.
Two peppermints.
One melted chocolate.
A grocery list that simply read...
"Chicken."
Well...
That narrows it down.
Then...
I found something that made me stop laughing.
A tiny crayon drawing.
It was folded into quarters.
On the front...
In shaky little handwriting...
It simply said...
"I love you Grandma."
Friend...
Everything got quiet.
Suddenly...
That clutter wasn't clutter anymore.
It was life.
A church bulletin with notes scribbled in the margin.
A movie ticket from date night.
A grandchild's drawing.
A grocery receipt from the day my daughter and I laughed so hard we forgot half the list.
Funny how the things we think we should throw away...
Sometimes become the things we treasure most.
❤️ Friend... Tell Me the Truth...
What's the strangest thing you've ever found in your purse?
And...
How old was it?
Please tell me somebody has discovered a french fry old enough to vote.
No judgment.
We're among friends.
I finally found my debit card.
You know where it was?
The little zipper pocket.
The one specifically designed for debit cards.
Imagine that.
I laughed so hard I nearly put everything right back where it came from.
Except the melted chocolate.
Even I have standards.

Friend...
Our purses may be heavy...
But they're filled with pieces of the people we love.
Receipts fade.
Coupons expire.
Lipstick runs out.
But the memories tucked between them...
Those are priceless.
❤️ You Belong Here.
💬 Let's Visit Together
Tell me...
What's the funniest thing you've ever discovered hiding in the bottom of your purse?
Or...
What's one thing you carry everywhere because "you just never know"?
I have a feeling somebody's carrying enough peppermints to supply the entire church choir...
And I cannot wait to hear about it.
Until next time...
If you clean out your purse today...
Wear safety goggles.
Just in case.
❤️ Love, Mama T
