Come Sit Awhile with Mama T

Friend...

Nobody tells you...

That the good old days...

Look an awful lot like ordinary Tuesdays while you're living them.

Back then...

I thought life was nothing but noise.

Somebody yelling...

"Mom! Have you seen my shoes?"

Somebody else asking...

"What's for supper?"

The dog barking because the mailman committed the unforgivable crime of existing.

The washing machine running.

The dryer buzzing.

The dishwasher humming.

The phone ringing.

The television talking.

The microwave beeping.

And me...

Standing in the middle of the kitchen wondering why I walked in there.

Again.

At the time...

I would've paid good money for a little peace and quiet.

Now?

I'd give just about anything to hear one more...

"Mom!"

I remember wishing...

Just once...

For everyone to stop talking at the same time.

Now I catch myself turning on the television...

Not because I'm watching it.

Just because the house feels too quiet.

Funny how that works.

The laundry basket that used to overflow?

Now it barely fills halfway.

The grocery bill...

Well...

Let's not talk about that.

Apparently groceries don't get cheaper just because fewer people are eating.

Nobody warned me about that little surprise.

Then there were the Saturday mornings.

Remember those?

Cartoons.

Pancakes.

Sticky syrup on the table.

Someone always stealing the last piece of bacon.

Back then...

I called it chaos.

Now I call it a blessing wearing pajamas.

Every once in a while...

I'll find an old drawing tucked inside a cookbook.

A school picture.

A little handwritten note.

Or one lonely LEGO hiding under a piece of furniture...

Waiting twenty years to attack my barefoot.

Those little things...

Have a funny way of stopping you in your tracks.

Not because they're valuable.

Because they remind you...

Life wasn't passing you by.

It was happening.

Right there.

Between school pickups.

Baseball games.

Burned casseroles.

Laundry mountains.

Grocery lists.

Birthday cakes.

And all those nights you were too tired to realize...

You were making memories.

Friend...

The older I get...

The less I miss having everything perfect.

I miss everybody together.

❤️ Friend... Can I Ask You Something?

What's one ordinary thing...

That became one of your favorite memories?

Was it family dinners?

Saturday mornings?

Road trips?

Hearing little feet run through the house?

Tell me in the comments.

Your stories always remind someone else they're not alone.

I've learned something these past few years.

Life doesn't announce...

"These are the moments you'll treasure forever."

It simply hands them to you...

Wrapped up in dishes.

Laundry.

School lunches.

Sticky fingerprints.

Busy schedules.

And noisy kitchens.

Then one day...

You look back...

And realize...

Those ordinary moments...

Were the extraordinary ones all along.

So if your house is loud today...

Take a picture.

If someone asks for another snack...

Smile.

If the kitchen is messy...

Leave it for ten more minutes.

Sit down.

Listen.

Laugh.

Because someday...

You'll miss that noise more than the clean floor.

And friend...

If your house is already quiet...

Know this.

Those memories still live there.

In every room.

In every recipe.

In every photograph.

In every laugh you still remember.

And somehow...

That makes a quiet house feel a little fuller.
