Dear Refrigerator... Stop Looking at Me Like I Have a Plan

Dear Refrigerator... Stop Looking at Me Like I Have a Plan

Dear Refrigerator... Stop Looking at Me Like I Have a Plan

I don't know when my refrigerator became so judgmental...

But every evening around 5:17 PM, I open the door, and it just... stares at me.

Not in a friendly way.

More like...

"Well?

You bought all this food.

What are you planning to do about it?"

Friend...

If refrigerators could roll their eyes, mine would've sprained something by now.

Somewhere Between Breakfast and Supper... My Entire Meal Plan Disappeared

I wake up every morning with the confidence of a Food Network champion.

"This week, we're eating healthy."

"I'm meal prepping."

"I'm saving money."

"I'm using everything in the refrigerator before it goes bad."

By lunchtime...

I've eaten crackers over the sink.

By supper...

I'm standing in front of the refrigerator hoping a rotisserie chicken walks in carrying mashed potatoes.

It's amazing how quickly ambition turns into,

"Does anybody want toast?"

Why Is Deciding What's for Dinner So Hard?

Scientists should really study this.

Not rocket science.

Not quantum physics.

Dinner.

Because nothing humbles a grown adult faster than answering the question,

"What's for supper?"

You'd think after cooking for years we'd have this figured out.

Instead...

We're Googling:

  • easy dinner ideas for tonight
  • what to make with food I already have
  • easy pantry meals for busy families
  • quick weeknight dinner ideas
  • recipes using pantry staples
  • budget-friendly family meals
  • easy comfort food recipes
  • meals with chicken and rice
  • what to cook when you don't feel like cooking
  • dinner ideas with pantry staples

Friend...

If you've searched any of those...

Welcome home.

You're among your people.

The Refrigerator Thinks I Have a Strategy

I don't.

I have hope.

Hope that if I open the refrigerator enough times...

Something new will magically appear.

Maybe a casserole.

Maybe tacos.

Maybe somebody else's cooking.

Instead...

I find the same bottle of mustard I've moved six different times.

Three kinds of shredded cheese.

Leftovers nobody claims.

And lettuce that's quietly becoming compost.

The Produce Drawer Is Basically a Retirement Home

Let's discuss vegetables.

I buy them with the best intentions.

"Oh yes..."

"This week we're eating salads."

Three days later...

The lettuce has dissolved into green soup.

The cucumbers are somehow sticky.

The carrots are still optimistic.

The celery has simply given up.

Meanwhile...

The frozen pizza is sitting in the freezer like,

"I've been emotionally available this whole time."

My Grandmother Could Feed Twelve People With One Chicken

I inherited...

Her casserole dish.

Unfortunately...

I did not inherit her magical ability to turn one chicken into:

Sunday dinner.

Monday casserole.

Tuesday soup.

Wednesday sandwiches.

Thursday pot pie.

Friday... somehow another casserole.

That woman could make leftovers reproduce.

Meanwhile...

I accidentally burn garlic bread.

Decision Fatigue Is Real

Here's the truth nobody tells you.

The hardest part about making supper usually isn't cooking.

It's deciding.

By the end of the day we've already decided:

What to wear.

Where to go.

What bills to pay.

Who forgot to call.

Whether that weird noise in the car is "expensive" or "turn the radio up."

Our brains are tired.

That's why so many people are searching for:

  • easy meals with pantry staples
  • simple family dinner ideas
  • budget meals for busy families
  • one-pan dinner recipes
  • dump-and-go meals
  • meals using ingredients already at home
  • comfort food recipes for families
  • easy recipes for beginners
  • meals until payday
  • dinner recipes with pantry ingredients

We're not lazy.

We're just fresh out of decisions.

That's Why I Created We Have Food at Home...

One evening I caught myself opening the refrigerator...

Closing it...

Walking away...

Coming back two minutes later...

Opening it again...

As if meatloaf had downloaded while I wasn't looking.

Dear Refrigerator...

I know you're full.

I know I bought groceries.

I know there's food in there somewhere.

But could you quit acting like I'm supposed to remember what I planned four days ago?

Some days...

I'm just trying to survive until bedtime without anybody asking,

"What's for supper?"

Friend...

If you've ever:

❤️ Opened the refrigerator five times hoping inspiration would appear...

❤️ Bought groceries even though you already had groceries...

❤️ Forgotten what was in your freezer...

❤️ Cooked breakfast because supper sounded exhausting...

❤️ Ordered pizza while staring at perfectly good ingredients...

Congratulations.

You're officially one of us.

Around here...

We don't pretend to have it all together.

We laugh.

We make grilled cheese.

Sometimes we call popcorn "an appetizer."

And sometimes...

That's enough.

Before You Open That Refrigerator Again...

Take a deep breath.

You don't need perfection.

You don't need seventeen ingredients.

You don't need a recipe that dirties every dish you own.

You just need somebody saying,

"Friend... I've got you."

That's exactly why What's for Supper? exists.

❤️ Easy dinners.

❤️ Real ingredients.

❤️ Less stress.

❤️ More laughter around the table.
